I’ve spent more than 30 years in the outdoor power equipment business, and I’ve seen a lot of changes along the way.

I started my first business in 2001 as a general repair shop. Over the years, the business grew quickly into a multi-brand power equipment dealership with several employees, offering equipment sales, parts and service.

A few years ago, I made the decision to downsize and get back to my roots. Today, James Southworth & Company is primarily a one-man operation, which allows me to work directly with my customers and focus on the equipment and services I know best. In an industry where experienced technicians are becoming increasingly difficult to find, keeping the business smaller also allows me to maintain the level of service and personal attention that has always been important to me.

In 2018, I relocated the business back to its original Buckingham County location. It’s truly a family operation. My parents have helped with equipment pickups and deliveries for nearly two decades, and you may see them out making the rounds from time to time. My wife, Teri, and I have a blended family of four children and two dogs.

Today, I primarily focus on zero-turn mower sales and service, with an emphasis on commercial equipment. James Southworth & Company is a full-service Husqvarna dealer offering equipment sales, parts, warranty support and repair service. While commercial mowing equipment is a specialty, I also provide parts and service support for residential Husqvarna equipment.

After all these years, I still believe in doing business the old-fashioned way—building relationships, standing behind what I sell and taking care of the customers who have supported my business over the years.

We’re in the western end of Buckingham County.

A quick GPS note: Some mapping apps incorrectly list the road as “Willow Creek Rd.” GPS directions may also take you approximately 3/10 of a mile past our driveway, so keep an eye out as you get close.

I’m normally at the shop Monday through Thursday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM. Because I’m a small owner-operated business, it’s always a good idea to call or text before making a special trip.
